What we do
BELT provides straightforward tutorials that teach skills for
building real, practical language tools for your own language.
You don't need a programming or linguistics background,
just some text from your language and knowledge about it.
Why it matters
Modern language tools (like spellcheckers or voice
transcription) are mainly designed for high-resource, widely
spoken languages.
BELT gives you the skills to build those tools, without huge
amounts of data or supercomputers.
Who should use this?
Our audience is endangered language community members, field
linguists, and anyone interested in language preservation.
Who are we?
BELT is
part of the FOLTA project at the University of Colorado at Boulder, under the
supervision of
Dr. Alexis Palmer and developed by Michael Ginn.
